Quick answer: install a player such as IBO Player or HOT Player from your TV’s app store, send us the MAC address and device key it shows, and your channels appear after a restart. Samsung and LG are covered step by step below.
Can my Smart TV run IPTV?
Most Samsung and LG Smart TVs sold in the UK from around 2018 onwards can install an IPTV player straight from their app store, so you don’t need any extra hardware. Older or budget models sometimes have a limited app store. In that case, a Firestick or Android TV box plugged into an HDMI port is the simplest solution.
Many other brands — including Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense — run Google TV or Android TV. If yours does, follow our Android TV guide instead.
IPTV on Samsung Smart TV
Samsung TVs run Tizen, Samsung’s own operating system. Apps come from the Samsung app store (shown as Apps on the home screen).
- Press the Home button and open Apps.
- Select the search icon and look for an IPTV player such as IBO Player or HOT Player.
- Install the app and open it. The player will show a MAC address and a device key on screen.
- Send those details to our support team on WhatsApp, and we’ll link your TeveUK subscription to the TV. Alternatively, add your playlist on the player’s own website using the same MAC address.
- Restart the app. Your channels, programme guide and on-demand library will load.
IPTV on LG Smart TV
LG TVs run webOS and use the LG Content Store (called Apps on newer models).
- Press the Home button and open the LG Content Store or Apps.
- Search for a compatible IPTV player such as IBO Player or HOT Player.
- Install and open the app, then note the MAC address and device key it shows.
- Send them to us, or add your playlist on the player’s website, then restart the app to load your channels.
HOT Player or IBO Player is included free with every TeveUK plan, so there’s no separate player fee to pay.
Smart TV tips for a better picture
- Plug in an ethernet cable. Almost every Smart TV has a network port on the back. A wired connection is far more stable than Wi-Fi for live TV.
- Keep the TV’s software up to date. Updates often improve app performance and video decoding.
- Turn off motion smoothing for sport. Settings such as Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus or LG’s TruMotion can add artefacts to live streams. Try turning them off or setting them to low.
- Fully restart the TV now and then. Smart TVs usually go to standby rather than switching off. Unplugging for 30 seconds clears the memory.
When to use a streaming stick instead
If your TV’s app store doesn’t list a suitable player, menus feel slow, or you want to use the TeveUK premium app, add a Fire TV Stick or Android TV device. It costs less than a new TV and often runs IPTV apps more smoothly than the TV’s own processor. See our Firestick guide for setup.
What it costs
Prices for one device. Plans for 2, 3 or 4 devices are on the full price list.
Frequently asked questions
Does IPTV work on Samsung Smart TVs?
Yes. Most Samsung TVs from around 2018 onwards can install a compatible IPTV player, such as IBO Player or HOT Player, from the Samsung app store.
Does IPTV work on LG Smart TVs?
Yes. Install a compatible player from the LG Content Store, then link it to your TeveUK subscription using the MAC address and device key the app shows.
What is the MAC address in an IPTV app?
It’s a unique identifier for your TV’s network connection. Players such as IBO Player use it, along with a device key, to link your subscription to that specific TV.
My TV is too old for IPTV apps. What can I do?
Plug a Fire TV Stick or Android TV box into a spare HDMI port. It turns any TV with HDMI into a capable IPTV device.
